I have always been fascinated with Australia and it is on my wish list of places to visit. I want to dive the Great Barrier Reef, visit the outback, go to the Sydney Opera House and much more! Did you know that Australia is the largest island and the smallest, driest continent?

Queensland is the second largest state with the lowest taxes in Australia. Brisbane is the Capital and the people enjoy an outdoor lifestyle with world class beaches, waterways, national parks, rainforests, tropical reefs and a pleasant climate. Dive the Great Barrier Reef and if you find yourself in Blackbutt, check out the annual Blooming Beautiful Festival!

Northern Territory’s coastline is flat backed by swamps, mangroves and mudflats. The northern Quarter is known as the “top end”. Darwin is the Capital and there is a well known monolith – Uluru (Ayers Rock) which is 348 m high.

Western Australia, the largest state, is on the Indian Ocean and is closer to Singapore and Jakarta than to Canberra! Perth is the Capital; agriculture is a top export and Western Australia is the major world supplier of lobster, prawns and pearls!

South Australia has a Mediterranean climate and is known as the wine and food center with 13 wine regions and considers itself the Arts Capital where you can enjoy many festivals, galleries, theatre and architecture. With rugged outback wilderness, scenic ranges, extensive coastline, and offshore islands, this location is ideal for outdoor sports, events and eating!

Victoria is the second smallest state which is slightly smaller than the US state of Utah. Melbourne is the Capital. Victoria has a rugged coastline but also many sandy beaches and 3 almost fully enclosed harbours; Port Philips Bay being the most important.

New South Wales is the most populous and heavily industrialized of the states. Sydney is the Capital and home to the country’s oldest European settlement, and is the largest and most cosmopolitan city in Australia. Icons of Sydney are the Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

Australian Capital Territory has Canberra as the Capital and is a planned city laid out around an artificial lake surrounded by a spectacular almost untouched natural environment. National Government is the main industry.

Tasmania is an island about the size of the US state West Virginia and is about 240 km off of the southeast corner of mainland Australia. Tasmania claims to have the cleanest air; purest water and fertile soil with a dramatic coastline, rugged mountains, tall forests and sparkling lakes. About one-third of the state is reserved for National Parks and Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage area which is a refuge for rare plants and animals.
